Call for Abstracts - European Workshop on Epitaxial Graphene and 2D Materials (EWEG2D'22)

Dear Colleagues,

It is our pleasure to announce that the Call for Abstracts and Registration for the 5th edition of the European Workshop on Epitaxial Graphene and 2D Materials (EWEG2D'22) is now open under https://eweg2d22.empa.ch/registration until January 16th 2021.

The 5th edition of the EWEG2D will take place in St. Moritz, Switzerland from May 24 – 28, 2022. We sincerely invite you and your group members to submit your recent work as contributed talk or poster presentation. The deadline for abstract submission is 31.12.2021.

The workshop focuses on vacuum preparation and characterization, as well as theoretical description, of the entire range of 2D materials: ranging from graphene to stanene and from transition metal dichalcogenides to the van der Waals ferromagnets. 2D materials derived nanostructures like graphene nanoribbons, membranes, hybrids with molecules or clusters, defect structures, and heteroepitaxial systems involving different 2D-layers vertically or laterally stacked and their synthesis by new methods like molecular beam epitaxy or ultralow pressure chemical vapor deposition will be key topics of the conference.

A selection of distinguished keynote and invited speakers will set the stage for the program of the workshop:

Confirmed Keynote Speakers:
Prof. Hong-Jun Gao, Institute of Physics, Chinese Academy of Science, Beijing (CN)
Prof. Michael F. Crommie, University of California Berkeley (USA)

Confirmed Invited Speakers:
Prof. Marika Schleberger, Fakultät für Physik, Universität Duisburg Essen (DE)
Dr. Rosanna Larciprete, Istituto dei Sistemi Complessi, Rome (IT)
Prof. Felix Baumberger, Université de Genève (CH)
Prof. Katharina J. Franke, Freie Universität Berlin (DE)
Prof. Mairbek Chshiev, Université Grenoble Alpes, Grenoble (FR)
Prof. Nacho Pasqual, nanoGUNE, San Sebastian (ES)
Prof. Pavel Jelinek, Institute of Physics, Czech Academy of Sciences, Prague (CZ)
Prof. Stephan Hofmann, Cambridge Graphene Center, University of Cambridge (UK)
Dr. Hannu-Pekka Komsa, Aalto University (FI)
Prof. Willi Auwärter, TU Munich (DE)

The registration fee of EUR 600.00 includes accommodation in a shared double room at Hotel Laudinella, St. Moritz including breakfast, 3x lunch, 3x dinner, the conference dinner, the book of abstracts, access to the hotel spa and the Sports/ Wellness Center Ovavera and the free use of public transport in St. Moritz and up to 13 mountain railway tranports in the Upper Engadin. A limited number of single rooms is available at a surcharge of EUR 300.00.

The current COVID measurements in Switzerland foresee that you need to have a COVID certificate which documents that you have had a COVID-19 vaccination, have had the disease or have a negative test result in order to participate in the conference and stay in the hotel. We will keep you posted on any news regarding the COVID pandemic and the corresponding measurements in Switzerland on our homepage.

Please note that the number of participants is limited to about 120 due to the capacity of the lecture hall. Registrations will be handled on a first come first serve basis, thus please register at your earliest convenience.

You can find all information related to the workshop, registration and abstract submission as well as travel information on our webpage https://eweg2d22.empa.ch. Please feel free to forward the workshop information to your lab members or any other interested colleague.

On behalf of the Scientific Committee of EWEG2D’22 we hope to see you in St. Moritz next year May,
