We would like to draw your attention to the conference “Physics of Defects in Solids: Quantum Mechanics Meets Topology” to be held in the Abdus Salam Center for Theoretical Physics (ICTP), Trieste, Italy, July 9-13, 2018. The registration/abstract submission is open now at

The deadline for abstract submission/registration is April 15, 2018.

The goal of the conference is to bring together active researchers in the field, as well as several experts in the related areas, to discuss "state of the art" in theory and experiment dealing with the physics of defects in solids. Particular attention is going to be paid to defects in nanomaterials and 2D systems, as the reduced dimensionality strongly affects their behavior.

The conference will be preceded by a half-day tutorial. For the social program we plan an excursion to the famous Škocjan karst caves (World Heritage site, http://www.park-skocjanske-jame.si/en), followed by a dinner.

There is no conference fee. The accommodation in ICTP guest houses starts from 25 € per day, and it is also possible to apply for lodging/accommodation support.

ICTP is located at the beautiful Adriatic coast (you can swim even during the coffee breaks :-), and can easily be reached from the local Ronchi dei Legionari airport, or from Venice.
