2nd INFN School and Workshop on “High Power Lasers for Fundamental Science and Applications” (HPLA25)
17–19 November 2025 | INFN-LNS, Laboratori Nazionali del Sud, Catania (Italy)

The 2nd edition of the INFN School and Workshop on High Power Lasers for Fundamental Science and Applications(HPLA25) will take place at the Laboratori Nazionali del Sud of the Istituto Nazionale di Fisica Nucleare (INFN-LNS) from 17 to 19 November 2025.

The Workshop will focus on the use and applications of high-power (TW to PW scale), ultra-short (fs–ns range) lasers, such as those that will soon be available at the I-LUCE (INFN Laser indUCEd radiation production) facility currently under development at INFN-LNS.

I-LUCE will be equipped with two high power laser systems and four experimental stations to carry our studies in the fields of fundamental plasma physics, accelerations physics and of their applications.

Main highlights of the Workshop

  • Introductory School: a half-day session on the fundamentals of high-power lasers and related topics.

  • Scientific Talks: presentations from leading experts worldwide, showcasing today’s major high-power laser facilities and their potential in fundamental science and applied research.

  • Poster Session: open to contributions from researchers, with a dedicated exhibition area.

  • Best Poster Award: The best poster will awarded with a price (a laptop).

  • Publication Opportunities: all contributions can be published in the EPJ Web of Conferences journal.

  • Social Events: a conference dinner on the evening of 18 November for all participants.

  • Laboratory Tour: a guided visit to INFN-LNS, including the I-LUCE area where the new laser systems will be installed.

HPLA25 offers a unique opportunity to learn about the latest high-power laser technologies, exchange ideas with leading scientists, and explore the broad potential of these systems in both fundamental and applied research.

It will be also an occasion to know the characteristics and potentialities ot the upcoming I-LUCE facility.
