Dear Colleagues,

We are glad to announce the XI “Italian Quantum Information Science” Conference (IQIS18) which will take place in Catania (I) on 17-20 September 2018 at the Monastero dei Benedettini.

The Conference will continue the agenda of regular meetings the Italian Quantum community, first set in Camerino in 2008 and then continued in Pisa (2009), Torino (2010), Vietri (2011), Padova (2012), Como (2013), Salerno (2014), Monopoli (2015), Rome (2016) and Florence (2017). As former editions, IQIS2018 aims to bring together researchers from Italy and around the world active in the field of Quantum Information and related Technologies. Senior and junior researchers, postdocs and students will have the opportunity to meet active research groups and establish collaborations.

On Wednesday 19th an event dedicated to the FET-Flagship 2018-28 on "Quantum Technologies" will take place, with meetings with representatives of industry, government and higher education. In the same day, a parallel Young IQIS2018 activity will take place, with short presentations of young scientists.

The topics of IQIS2018 will be Quantum Technologies, Fundamental Quantum Science, Quantum Hardware and Selected Special Topics of current interest. Keynote speakers have been invited to report with tutorial on their recent contributions to these areas. Abstract submission of contributions for regular oral, “young” oral and/or poster presentations in any of the above topics is open until May 15th, 2018.

Moreover, in the new perspective that quantum technologies have taken within EU, we thought it would be important for the Italian community working in the field to have a periodic record of the ongoing research. For this reason, all conference participants will have the possibility to publish an extended abstract in a special online issue of Proceedings (MDPI, Basel). Submitted contributions will be peer-reviewed. Published papers will receive a DOI and will be indexed in WoS/Scopus.

During the Conference a social program (guided visit to Monastero dei Benedettini and Public Lecture in an historical palace) is planned. On 19/9 an excursion on mount Etna with sunset at Valle del Bove is planned, followed by the social dinner. To help the Conference organization, we urge the Participants to book excursion and dinner within the deadline for early payment of the fee.

Important dates and deadlines

Registration and abstract submission May 15, 2018.

Abstracts of a maximum of one page of A4 including figures and references, should be submitted online.

Early fee payment June 15, 2018

Excursion + social dinner payment June 15, 2018

Late fee payment Aug. 31, 2018

Contributions for the proceedings submitted online within August 15 will be made available during the Conference. The final submission deadline for publication in the special issue of MDPI Proceedings is September 20.

We kept very low fees for PhD students to encourage a large participation of young scientists to the Conference. Therefore we ask you to disseminate the information also to PhD students not working in the field of Quantum Technologies, but possibly interested. For those who intend to register for the Flagship day only, the fee should be payed online within August 31, 2018.
